Up date 1.8.2015 trash collection

Dear All,

Just wanted to send you the latest on Trash Collection this week.  As noted below, trash will not be collected the rest of this week.  That means everyone who has trash pickup on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday will not have their trash or recycling picked up this week.  You may put out double of both next week for pick up.  This did not affect Monday or Tuesday pickup and those two days will not have double pickup next week.  Hope this is helpful information, and please feel free to forward it on to others who may not know about it.

I hope everyone remains safe during these extremely cold temperatures and wind chills.  If you must be outside, bundle up completely.  As you are driving, watch for drifting snow.  I have noticed this in several open areas where the streets are completely clear and you go around a curve and the road is full of drifted snow.  This is even harder to see in the evening or at night.  Remember that pets cannot stay outside in this cold as their feet will freeze.  Also, check on an elderly neighbors and make sure they are safe and don’t need anything.

Just a reminder if we get more snow to make sure that any fire hydrants in front of your property are uncovered and easily accessible in case of a fire.  Another thing, keep as clear as you are able any drains along the street so that when the snow melts the water can flow down into them and not pool on the street.  If the water pools it then can freeze which causes ice and treacherous conditions.

Keep warm and safe.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6

TRASH COLLECTION CANCELLED FOR FRIDAY, JANUARY 9

INDIANAPOLIS – The City’s Department of Public Works is cancelling residential trash, heavy trash and curbside recycling collection on Friday, January 9 due to extreme cold. Residents with regular Friday trash collection will not have trash collected this week. Instead, residents on Friday routes will have a double collection on Friday, January 16 . This cancellation applies to all DPW trash routes and all trash routes serviced by contracted trash collectors.

This is a change from the slide schedule announced by the City yesterday.

Sub zero temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills caused the City to cancel trash and recycling collection on Wednesday, January 7, Thursday, January 8, and Friday, January 9. Residents who normally have trash collected on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday will not have collection this week.

Instead, residents affected by the cancellations will have double collection next week.

Curbside recycling customers will have a double collection on their next scheduled recycling collection day.

Residents who have trash collection on Monday or Tuesday will not be affected by the double collection.

Residents with questions about trash cancellations or next week’s double collection may call the Mayor’s Action Center at (317) 327-4622.

Dear All,Here is the latest information that I have received from DPW about trash collection for the rest of this week.  Please note that if you were to have trash pick-up today, it has been cancelled and you will not have pickup this week.  Wednesday’s trash is not going to be delayed, but instead will have double pickup next week.  Thursday’s trash will be picked up on Friday and Friday will have pickup on Saturday.  This applies to those of us who have Waste Management and Republic as well since they are contracted by the City.  I know that this can be an inconvenience for some, especially those with Wednesday routes, but the safety of those who are doing the work needs to be considered.  Thanks for your understanding with DPW on this.

Please feel free to forward this on to others who may not know about this, not only in our district but throughout Marion County.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6

TRASH COLLECTION SUSPENDED THURSDAY FOR FREEZING TEMPERATURES

INDIANAPOLIS – With more frigid weather predicted tomorrow, t he Department of Public Works (DPW) will suspend residential trash, heavy trash and curbside recycling Thursday, January 8. The extremely cold conditions are too dangerous for solid waste crews. This changes the slide schedule released by DPW yesterday when announcing that today’s trash service would be suspended for freezing temperatures .

Those with regular Wednesday trash collection will not have their trash collected this week. Instead, residents on Wednesday routes will have a double pick-up next week.
Here is the new schedule for this week and next:

  • On Friday, January 9, we will pick up regular Thursday trash routes.
  • On Saturday, January 10, we will pick up regular Friday trash routes.
  • Next week, Wednesday, January 14, we will hold a double pick-up for regular Wednesday routes.
  • For Republic curbside recycling customers, there will be a double pick-up on their next regularly scheduled curbside recycling pick-up day.

This suspension and schedule apply to DPW solid waste and all contracted solid waste routes.
