December Calendar for Eagle Creek Park

Dear All,

This may be the time of year we don’t think about our parks quite a much.  The leaves have fallen so there is not nature’s paintbrush doing beautiful landscapes, the snow has not fallen yet to bring that quiet, crisp, winter beauty, spring is still far away from being “around the corner”, and summer is just pleasant memories.  However, there is still a lot going on in Indy Parks!

Attached is the December Calendar for Eagle Creek Park.  One highlight is the Celebration of Nature Art Show that is starting Saturday, Dec. 2nd and running through Dec. 10th.  I was fortunate to get a “sneak preview” yesterday and there are some really talented artists and beautiful pictures and photographs of nature.  Take time to visit and check it out yourself.  I want to also remind everyone that the Eagle Creek Park Office, Earth Discovery Center, and Ornithology Center will be closed on December 24th, 25th, and 26th.

A reoccurring program at Eagle Creek Park for preschoolers in mind (but early elementary students are welcome) is “Story Time on the Reservoir”.  I have attached a flyer that tells more about that program.  Great learning experience for boys and girls of that age group!

While Eagle Creek Park is in our District, there are over 200 parks in the Indy Parks System.  Many are “pocket” or more “neighborhood” parks, but other large parks have various programs.  Attached is the Special Events Calendar for some of the programs at not only Eagle Creek Park, but some of our other various parks that you may have an interest in.

A highlight for me is Garfield Park’s Conservatory Crossing.  The Conservatory is decorated beautifully for the Christmas Holiday, including toy trains (where the name of the exhibit comes from) and lovely poinsettias.  While it is fun to visit any time, to me it is very special in the evenings.  It is only $4 per person and $10 per family (limit two adults), and really a bargain.  A special flyer is attached for this show with dates and hours.  A picture with the train and poinsettias is also in the up right of the Indy Parks Special Events Calendar.  Hopefully you will make this part of your Holiday activities.

I do hope you will get out and enjoy our Indy Parks and also enjoy some of the special programs and events that they have going on.  They’re really worth checking out!

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
