Eagle Creek Park Calendar for February

Dear All,

Attached is the Eagle Creek Park Calendar for February.  There are a lot of really great programs for all ages – Story Times for the very young – through Volunteer Coffee Talk for adults and many things in-between.  Check out what is going on this month!  Also, look at the “Did You Know” section for some important dates in the history of Eagle Creek Park.

You may have noticed lately a lot of trees that have orange paint on them (see picture below) throughout the park.  There are over 400 dead or dying trees that are marked for removal, with the high priority ones painted with orange.  The majority of the hazardous trees are dead or dying White Ash Trees that were infected by the Emerald Ash Borer.  The high priority trees are within a twenty foot perimeter to the park roads, parking lots, buildings, etc.  Tree contractors will be working in the park to remove these hazardous trees, mainly during the week, but you may also see them on weekends to take advantage of good weather.  Thanks to DPW Forestry for seeing that this is getting taken care of for all of us.

Want to remind everyone that 2018 Park Passes are available for sale at the Park Gates and the Park Office on west 56th Street.  Also, Eagle Creek Park Foundation (ECPF) Membership Passes can be purchased through the ECPF at www.EagleCreekPark.org.  Park Passes are a great way to save money as you may visit the park as often as you want by showing your pass.  Purchasing your pass through Eagle Creek Park Foundation helps them to raise money that stays at our park.  Park Passes can make a great gift for a family.

Hope you will visit our park soon.  It is a lot of fun to watch the birds and other active animals this time of year.  You can enjoy watching birds feed from the comfort of being inside at the Ornithology Center and their huge windows.

Don’t forget that Ground Hog Day is Friday, February 2nd!  Wonder if the Ground Hog will see his shadow and what will be the prediction for the rest of winter?

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
