It is almost that time of year – for the lighting of what many of us grew up knowing as “The World’s Largest Christmas Tree”. Each year children are given the opportunity to enter a coloring contest and have a chance at winning the opportunity to be on stage with Santa and “flip the switch” to light the Monument. In addition to the winner, there will be four additional winners of a $529 College Choice 529 Direct Savings Plan. So if you know of a child between the ages of 3 – 12 who likes to be creative, this is an opportunity to use their artistic ability and enter this contest. It would be great if one of the winners came from our area.
Would like to take the opportunity to give a huge thanks to IBEW #481 for making this possible. Their volunteer work to bring us this tradition each year is greatly appreciated!
If you would like to go to the 56th Lighting, it will be held on Friday, November 23rd. The actual lighting occurs at approximately 7:55 p.m., but you will want to be down early for the festivities as it is all very well attended. It will also be televised live on WTHR-13 from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Not into crowds or have other plans that day? The Circle will remain lit throughout the Holiday Season, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy during this time.
You may read more about the IPL Coloring Contest and Indy’s Favorite Holiday Tradition below. I have also attached the coloring page and entry rules. This was in the Indianapolis Star last Sunday as well. All entries are due by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 13th. Good luck to the boys and girls who enter from District 6!
