Dear All,
My next Town Hall Meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 19th, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Community Center (the building in back) located at 2950 N. High School Road. Indy Parks Director Linda Broadfoot, Eagle Creek Parks Senior Manager Brittany Davis, and others will be our guest speakers.
While I had asked Director Broadfoot to be our speaker and update us on what is going on at the Indy Parks in our area a couple of weeks ago, this week two parks received terrific news from the Lilly Endowment:
- Riverside Park is going to receive a $9.2 million grant to transform the Taggart Memorial (that is in extremely poor condition) into a centerpiece for Riverside Park, the neighborhood around it, and our City. It will become a beautiful performance venue that will feature “Shakespeare in the Park” and many other things.
- Eagle Creek Park through the Eagle Creek Park Foundation will receive a $2.6 million grant to develop the West Side Trail (see attached map). This will open up the west side of the reservoir for hiking, bird watching, etc. What is really great about this is that it is including the first ADA loops in the park, making it accessible to those who have not been able to enjoy the trails and what they can observe on them before. Since this is a “shovel ready” project they should be able to start work in the spring.
Join us on December 19th to learn more about these two grants along with a lot of other news about the parks in our district and area. Also, we will be having a short presentation and update on the Billboard Ordinance that will be coming before the council the beginning of next year. Should be a very informative meeting. P.S. I want to thank all of the volunteers who have been helping me pass out cards for this meeting. With their help we can get information out to a huge amount of the district. If you have not received a card yet and you would like to help pass out cards to the homes in your neighborhood, please let me know. I can bring you the cards you would need or even help you with your neighborhood. If you would be willing to go out in other neighborhoods with me and help pass out cards, let me know and we can arrange to work in a neighborhood that has not been done yet. I really love to have company when I am out walking.
