2019

Dear All,

Just wanted to take time today to get out some information that may be helpful as we get ready to welcome in 2019.

Remember that trash will not be picked up tomorrow, Jan. 1st, and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.  So Tuesday will be on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, Thursday on Friday and Friday on Saturday.  Starting next Monday, we will then be back on regular schedule for a couple of weeks.

As a reminder, break down any large boxes that you may have and place them entirely inside your can.  Do not let them “stick out” and “advertise” to would-be criminals who may be canvasing an area looking for homes to rob that may have recently received new electronics.

ToxAway is the first Saturday of the month (which will be January 5th) from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Traders Point Collection Facility, located at 7550 N. Lafayette Road.  This is just north of the 71st Street exit off of I – 65.  For more information about ToxAway and what items are accepted, as well as other drop off locations, go to:  Toxdrop City of Indianapolis.

With the rain we are currently experiencing and the temperatures dropping below freezing later this week, I would like to remind everyone to make sure that the drains and curbs in front of your house and throughout your neighborhood are free of leaves and other debris.  As I have been out and about the past month I have noticed many drains covered with debris. These may have been cleared before, but leaves and other debris have washed over them once again.  If the drains are covered water may end up backing up, and when it does freeze can cause ice on the street.  This can cause an accident or cause someone who is walking to fall.  I have attached the “Keep the Stormwater Moving” information sheet from the City.

Lastly, I would like to give a big THANKS! to everyone who has either helped with an organized cleanup this year or those who go out on their own or in small groups on a regular basis and pick up trash.  This really does make a huge difference to our area and I appreciate everyone who is going above and beyond being a good neighbor and great Citizen.  I wish I knew the names of those who do pick up trash along our roadways and been doing other things to make our area better on a regular basis.  Lately I have seen some folks working in various areas of the district, and what a difference they made in the areas they were picking up!  When I see people working, I do try to say thanks, but it is not always possible with traffic.  Please know that I do appreciate those of you who are cleaning up along our roadways and bridges.  Again, THANKS to everyone who is responsible for helping.  What a difference you all make.  If you know of those who have helped, please Thank them for me.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

City-County Councillor District 6
