Circle of Lights Tree Lighting on Monument Circle

Dear All,
Before long it will be Thanksgiving and then the next day the Circle of Lights Tree Lighting on Monument Circle will take place.  Before that time, though, there will be the “Shining the Light on Indianapolis” that will debut on Saturday, November 9th, (see below for more details) just in time for Veterans Day.  Then on November 16th the volunteer IBEW 481 union electricians will string the lights and garland strands in preparation for this 57 year old tradition.  I do hope that you will be able to enjoy some of the festivities in person or watch the tree lighting on TV.

Each year there is a contest to determine a child to “flip the switch”.  Last year District 6 was honored to have a connection with the winner as the young lady’s grandparents live in our district.  The grandmother had sent the coloring contest entry to her granddaughter from the email I had sent.  Her grandmother certainly was extremely proud of her!  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if this year we would have a winner from our district or another connection?  I have attached the contest page and the entry instructions.  The top 5 winners will receive money deposited into a College Choice 529 Savings Plan for them and the winning entry gets to light the tree.  Entries must be in by noon on November 18th.

Please feel free to forward this information to others who may be interested.  What is happening between now and November 29th is something that people from not only Marion County, but also our neighboring counties may enjoy.  I want to encourage you to pass it on.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
