Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

I would like to take this opportunity to say

Happy Thanksgiving
to all of you.

I hope that today and over the weekend you get the chance to spend time with
family or friends and have a wonderful time.

This is a terrific time to celebrate and give thanks for our many blessings.
We are so fortunate to have so much to be thankful for.

This holiday is truely American and dates to the Pilgrims and their expression of gratitude to all who helped them and to God.  We can all remember learning about that first Thanksgiving, but do you know that George Washington proclaimed a national thanksgiving celebration in 1789? Then in 1863 President Lincoln turned Thanksgiving into a national holiday at the advice of poet and magazine editor Sarah Josepha Hale.

When we think about the things the Pilgrims were thankful for at that
first Thanksgiving almost 400 years ago,
family, friends, health, food, and homes,
we realize those are the same things that are most important still today.
Take time to remember what the Pilgrims and all of our forefathers endured so that we
can live in such a great Country and enjoy the freedoms and lives we have.
As Americans we have so much to be thankful for.

Have a fun filled day.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6

P.S.  HOpe you enjoy the Old English text, as I thought it was a way to honor those who started our great country so long ago.  Sure glad we have the text we use today!
