The next “Coffee With a Cop” will be on Tuesday, January 21st

Dear All,

I wanted to get out some information to you before the end of the year from IMPD. While the events are not for several weeks yet, please mark your calendars now.

The next “Coffee With a Cop” will be on Tuesday, January 21st, at the OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA located 5315 Lafayette Road from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity for you to talk with many of the IMPD Officers and the Commander on a one-to-one basis, get to know them better, and to ask them questions or share concerns that you may not otherwise have the chance to do. Stop by and visit or just say “Hi!”. Let’s let them know how much we appreciate them and what they do for us. If you have not been inside the YMCA this is also a good time to check it out. See attached for more details.

As a reminder, there will NOT be a Task Force Meeting in January, as these always are on the first Wednesday of the month, which happens to be New Year’s Day. The next Task Force Meeting will be on Wednesday, February 5th. These are held at IMPD Northwest District Headquarters located 3821 Industrial Blvd. from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Each month is a different topic for their presentation. In February Commander Lewis will be doing a 2019 District Review. Come and find out how our area ended up the year. Flyer is attached.

I would like to encourage all the neighborhoods in District 6 and the area to make 2020 a year that you have an active Crime Watch. I know many of you do so already, but some do not or have not had a Crime Watch Meeting for a while. This is a great way to learn more about how to make your home and your neighborhood safer against crime coming in. As many Crime Watch Meetings I have attended throughout the district over the years, I always learned something new at each one or remembered something I had not thought about for a while. If your neighborhood wants to set up a Crime Watch, contact Kim Taylor (our Northwest District Crime Watch Specialist) at 317-327-6572 or email her at Kim.Taylor@indy.gov. I hope that many more of the neighborhoods in the area take advantage of having her or an officer come out and talk to them about Crime Watches and tips to be less likely of being a victim of a crime.

Lastly, I have attached the reminder about when to call 911 (Emergency) or 311 from a cell phone or 317-327-3811 from a land line (non-emergency). I want to encourage everyone to call 911 when you see or hear something that does not seem right to you. By reporting it immediately you help the police if there is a crime being committed to have a better chance of catching the criminal quickly.

Hope to see you at either a “Coffee With a Cop” or a Task Force Meeting in the future. Please feel free to share this information with others throughout the Northwest District IMPD area.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

City-County Councillor District 6
