Christmas decorations in neighborhoods

Dear All,

Every since I was a child I have always enjoyed going around and seeing all the Christmas Decorations. Many of you know that during the past decade I, along with some very special helpers, would go out looking for Christmas decorations in neighborhoods and leave a card thanking people for their decorations and wishing them a Merry Christmas. My husband and I have still been driving around looking at decorations, we just don’t leave cards any more. With so many events canceled this year due to Covid-19, it really is an activity that can be enjoyed safely. I have attached an article that tells about some of our favorite spots, but there are many more. Hope you will take some time before the end of the year to go out and enjoy seeing the wonderful decorations so many people have taken the time to put up for all to see. And to all of those who have decorated this year, I want to take this opportunity to say “Thanks!” for doing this to brighten the season and give something for all of us to enjoy.

I have also included a couple of pictures that I took while out and about. It is difficult to take pictures of the displays, and I have many more, but I like the messages on both of these.

Take care, be safe, and have a joyful Christmas season.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

Enjoy Christmas Lights and Displays in Neighborhoods

One of my favorite activities at this time of year is driving around neighborhoods and seeing all of the Christmas and Seasonal decorations. From the simplest to the most elaborate and complex, I enjoy them all. When it gets dark so early in the winter, the lights and displays are so welcoming.

The last two weeks my husband and I have spent several evenings driving around various neighborhoods and areas. I looked on the internet for some of our ideas as to where to go, but lately we have just driven through neighborhoods that I have remembered being worth the drive from previous years. These are ones that we felt you may also enjoy spending time driving through.

Log Run Lights located at 9209 Log Run Dr. S. (neighborhood is west of Tansel Road south of Clermont) is a fantastic display. In 2017 they were the “Battle of Bulbs” winner, and I believe they may have even more lights this year. There will be a lot of other traffic in this neighborhood, so make sure you drive slowly and are alert for people walking as well. Also, while you are in the area, driving through Clermont on Crawfordsville Road is a delight as the town decorates nicely for the season.

There are many terrific displays in Speedway, but the most concentrated group seems to be east of Lynhurst Drive in the 1900 block to 2300 block on Fisher, Winton and Auburn Streets. The amount of homes in this area with lovely displays is great. Don’t limit yourself to just this area, though, as there are some other wonderful displays throughout Speedway.

There are about a half dozen neighborhoods on both sides of Dandy Trail between 46th Street and 56th Street that are worth driving through. They offer a wide variety of styles and décor in each neighborhood. Make sure you check them all out.

One of my all time favorite neighborhoods to see lights is Woodcreek Farms in Avon. This is located on the north side of 21st Street, east of IN 267, and almost across from a house I call “The Gingerbread House” for their light display. In years past, there was always one court on which every home was decorated, along with the trees that lined the street. This year it seems the entire neighborhood is full of lights and displays, and I am not sure that the best part of the neighborhood is the court that was always my favorite.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas of where to start for viewing residential lights and displays. There are many others out there for you to discover, and what a better way to spend an evening this time of year but going out to look at decorations.
