picking up trash along our roadways in both Wayne and Pike Township

Dear All,

This past weekend you may have seen a lot of people out picking up trash along our roadways in both Wayne and Pike Township. Ryan Heathco, Lead Minister at Ben Davis Christian Church, in Wayne Township and Annette Johnson, Trustee, in Pike Township organized many of these cleanups. It was part of LoveThis.City. A huge thanks goes out to them and the work they put into organizing schools, churches, along with many other organizations/groups and for inspiring so many to get out to make a difference in our community.

PTRA (Pike Township Residents Association) President Susan Blair and I decided that we would do something about an area as part of LoveThis.City. If you have been just south of the Boat Ramps on Eagle Creek Park you may have noticed how much trash and litter had been left around and thrown out next to the parking lot. It was really an eyesore and definitely not the kind of impression we would want anyone to have about our area as they come to go out on a boat or dine at Rick’s Boatyard. We went out Sunday afternoon and worked until dusk picking up trash in the area, including the woods. We picked up five HUGE (and heavy) trash bags of all kinds of trash and litter (see picture). We also took before and after photos that just shows the mess that thoughtless people had created in this area and how it looked when we finished.

I would like to thank once more everyone who either went out this weekend as part of LoveThis.City or have gone out on their own lately. It really does make a difference and I would like to encourage you to keep it up. With so many areas done, those will be easier to keep clean. There are still many places that need that big cleanup. I hope that many more people will get out and pick up a bag or two. We can all do our part to improve the westside.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
