School needs:

Dear All,

Summer is winding down (at least for those who are going back to school) and I would like to ask for your help in making the start of school a little bit easier for some of the boys and girls who live in our district.  As a former teacher,  I know how important a good start to the year is, and how much new supplies mean to students.  Unfortunately, not all parents either understand or have the ability to purchase supplies that are so important to getting the students off with the proper tools.  Several years ago I started donating supplies to the 3 elementary schools that were then in my district.  My husband and I tried to fill about 10 backpacks per school as well as additional crayons, pencils, glue, folders, etc.  With my new district I have 5 elementary schools that sit in my district, which does not cover a couple of schools where students who live in my district attend.  The need seems to be greater every year, and this need is not only there at the beginning of the year, but as the year goes on and students move in without supplies or supplies get used up, lost, or broken and parents do not replace them.  This is where you can help.  At my Town Hall Meeting (info below) I will have a donation box to collect school supplies and then get them to the schools that Friday.  Cannot make it to my Town Hall Meeting?  I have two drop off sites set up to take supplies starting on Wednesday, July 20th through Thursday, July 28th.  More information on what is needed as well as where you can take them is listed below.  It is really easy to help out – as you are grocery shopping, in the drug store, or any other of our local big box stores pick up some of the suggested school supplies and either bring them to my Town Hall Meeting or drop them off at the drop off sites.  By working together we can all help a child get a better start to the new school year!

My next Town Hall Meeting will have as our guest speakers Leonard Hoops from Visit Indy and Sherry Seiwert from Downtown Indy.  I have had the opportunity to speak with both of these leaders, and have enjoyed hearing what they have to say about our City, tourism, and what the events that occur mean to us as well as what they offer to Indianapolis overall.  I am sure you will find the information they give very informative.  Details for the meeting are:
