Fireworks

Dear All,

As the Fourth of July nears we all know that there are those who will be doing some of their own fireworks.  I have attached two information sheets about fireworks.  The first is from the State and is on Fireworks Safety.  Remember, our Marion County laws do limit fireworks to the dates around the 4th of July and for New Years Eve (December 31st from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on January 1st) for individuals.  Any other days in Marion County are not allowed by law.  See the second information sheet for more information.

As a quick reminder:

In Marion County – Fireworks use on and around 4th of July are as follows:

5p.m. until two hours after sunset June 28 through July 3.

          10 a.m. to midnight on July 4.

5p.m. until two hours after sunset July 5 through July 9.

Fireworks can be purchased only by persons 18 years of age or older.

If you aren’t lighting on your property, make sure you have permission from the person who lives there.

I hope that this information is helpful as we start the time where fireworks are legal for our upcoming celebration of our Nation‘s Birthday.  If you are using fireworks or around others who are, please follow the Safety Tips.

On another matter, those who have trash pickup on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday next week will be on a slide schedule.  There will not be any pick up on July 4th, so starting Wednesday everyone will be pushed back one day.  Those of us who have Monday or Tuesday pick up will not be affected.  Please see below for more information.

Please feel free to forward this information on to others who may not be aware of our Fireworks’ Laws or that trash will be on a slide schedule.  This does not only pertain to those who live in District 6, but to everyone who lives in Indianapolis.  Thanks for your help in getting the word out.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
