Dear All,
Attached is our District 6 Crime Report for the month of April. It was very disappointing when I noticed we had 89 incidents during April. This is the most in a month we have had so far this year, it is not summer yet, and the students are still in school. The next three to four months are the ones when we usually see the spike. While there are still some of the same areas that tend to have more crime, it seems that some areas that we don’t see having reports very often were also victims. I cannot emphasize enough to practice good, common sense safety tips at home, work, the store, parks, or wherever else you may be. We have all seen or heard these tips. They are the tips I have sent, ones that are talked about at Crime Watch Meetings, ones you have read in different publications. The ones of you who are reading this are probably the ones who already practice these every day. Now it is up to us to get our friends and neighbors to do likewise. Keep setting good examples. Help make people aware by talking about different safety tips at your neighborhood meetings, church groups, clubs, work related meetings, with children’s and youth groups (after all, they need to be responsible as well for making sure bikes, etc. are put away, doors locked, practice safety when outside, etc.), and other organizations that you belong. By everyone working together, being conscience of things we can all do to be less likely to be a victim of a crime, and helping to make others aware of safety practices – we will not only make our own area safer, but help in making other areas safe as well.
Did you know we have a new Crime Watch Specialist? I met her at “Coffee With A Cop” last week. Her name is Kim Taylor. I know that she would be glad to hear from the various neighborhoods in our area and set up a Crime Watch Meeting. Her contact information is: email – Kim.Taylor@indy.gov and phone number – 317-327-6572. Let’s welcome her to the Northwest IMPD District and let her know that we are serious about keeping our neighborhoods safer.
Remember to call 911 when you see or hear something that is not right. Don’t hesitate calling 911 when something is happening. If something has already happened and you are sure whoever did it cannot be anywhere close, call the non-emergency number to file a report at 317-327-3811. Many times reports are not filed, especially with vehicle larcenies. It is important to the police to have this information so they can see if there is a pattern, track where things are occurring, maybe patrol an area more, and it can help them overall find the person or persons responsible. So, if you see something – say something – call 911. And please report any crime that has been committed.
Sincerely,
Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
P.S. Don’t forget the Task Force meeting Wednesday evening, May 3rd, from 6:00 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the new Girl Scout Headquarters just south of 21st Street on the east side of Girls School Road (Camp Dellwood).
