Pot Holes

Dear All,

I was extremely excited when I first learned about the press release that is below earlier today.  DPW is going to do an aggressive “Pot Hole “Blitz” starting tomorrow (Friday), and continuing on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday!  Due to the recent rains potholes were not able to be filled, but with the predicted forecast of dry weather (let’s hope they are right!) they are planning on tackling this growing problem with extra crews and hours.  It sounds like they are focusing on the major thoroughfares, but hopefully after this they can then work on the many side streets and neighborhoods that so desperately need pot holes filled as well.  Keep an eye out and drive carefully when you see these crews.

Please report any potholes that you know of close to your home, work, schools, etc. to the Mayor’s Action Center at 317-327-4MAC (317-327-4622) or you may use the “RequestIndy” website.  Remember, they do not know where potholes are if you do not report them.  You do need to give an address and/or the closest intersection (two cross streets) for the location.  Do report these to the MAC so that we can get as many potholes filled in our area as possible and keep them from getting larger or deeper.

Don’t forget to report those potholes and have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

CITY PLANS AGGRESSIVE WEEKEND ASSAULT ON POTHOLES WITH A 4-DAY BLITZ

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW)  will be out in force this weekend with 19 DPW crews and 2 contractor crews attacking potholes on the City’s major thoroughfares.  Crews will be in pothole blitz mode on Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday beginning at 7 a.m. each day. Each crew will work 10-hour shifts to address not only the pothole service requests from citizens but also potholes they see while on routes. DPW’s goal is to address more than 700 pothole service requests with hot-mix asphalt, doubling down efforts since recent rains have cleared.

“The directive in this blitz operation is ‘If you see it, patch it’, said acting DPW director Tim Joyce. “If you’re out and about this weekend, you’ll see crews filling potholes.”

This month, both heavy and consistent rains have not only caused new potholes to form but also further deteriorate existing ones. DPW’s efforts to address potholes recently have been hampered by heavy rains and were forced to focus on high water concerns.

To make a pothole patch effective dry weather is very important to the patching process.  Due to the weather DPW crews could not consistently address streets as needed. To address this need, DPW crews will take advantage of the forecasted dry weather this weekend to attack potholes throughout the city.
DPW wants to remind residents they can enter pothole service requests by contacting the Mayor’s Action Center at 317-327-4622 or by using the RequestIndy website. DPW also encourages residents to assist pothole crews by provide the closest intersection near a pothole when making a service request.
