Leaf Collection 2020

Leaf Collection 2020

Dear All,

Starting on Monday, November 9th, and for the next 4 weeks (through Friday, December 4th), Indianapolis residents may put out up to 40 bags of leaves a week on your normal trash day for pick up.  The leaves should be in plastic bags (as paper bags may get wet and break) and set them away from your trash cart.  Leaves should be out by 7:00 a.m.  A separate truck will be picking these up as they are taken to the South Side Landfill where they will be made into mulch.  In the spring residents may get free mulch from there.

Just a reminder that trash will not be picked up on Thanksgiving Day.  Thursday trash will be picked on on Friday and Friday’s on Saturday that week.  This includes leave pickup as well.  All routes run normal on Veterans Day.

It is illegal to burn leaves in Marion County.  Also, DPW (Department of Public Works) wants to remind everyone to clear leaves and debris from storm drains to avoid flooding and drainage problems.  Please see attached for more information.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

It’s that time of year again! The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin collecting leaves from Marion County residents on Monday, November 9, 2020 and will do so through Friday, December 4, 2020, except for Thanksgiving Day. There will be no leaf pick up (or residential trash or recycling pick up for that matter) on Thanksgiving Day. Thursday pick up will slide to Friday and Friday will slide to Saturday that week. All routes run as normal on Veteran’s Day. If residents would like leaves picked up outside of the leaf season timeline, they must fit them (bagged!) inside their trash cart – items outside the cart will not be picked up.

Collected leaves are composted at the South Side Landfill, and free mulch will be available for residents in the spring. DPW’s fall leaf collection service is offered at no additional cost to residents. Call South Side Landfill for availability at 317-247-6808.

Remember, the burning of leaves is illegal in Marion County. Leaf burning creates particulate dust and soot that can contain toxic chemicals, decreasing our air quality.
