Crime Report March 2016

Dear All,

Attached is the Crime Report for the current District 6 for the month of March.  This is our 3rd Crime Report for this year.  While vehicle larcenies have “moved” around a bit to different neighborhoods, we have stayed pretty consistent in the number of crimes committed.Wednesday evening I was at the Northwest District IMPD’s Task Force Meeting.  Our new Commander, Karen Arnett, talked about crime and the importance of reporting it.  Some of the key points that she made that I wrote down were:

  •   See Something – Say Something.  If there is a strange car, etc. in your neighborhood, call 911.  Let the police be the judge of if they are there for a valid reason.
  •   Never leave things in your car.  This especially applies to electronics – a GPS, phones, i-pads, etc.  This also includes even in a driveway.
  •   Always LOCK your vehicle.  Even if running inside for a few minutes.  Lock your car and take you keys with you.
  •  More crime tends to happen when it is warmer.  Be on the lockout and be careful.
  •   If it looks suspicious to you, it will look suspicious to them.  Call 911.
  •   She also mentioned squatters (people who take up residence in an empty house who do not own it nor do they have permission to be there).  Pay attention to homes that are vacant or people are not currently living in them in your neighborhood.  If you see people around, lights on, etc. – call 911 and report it.
  •   If you need to call, call 911.  Don’t hesitate calling.

Our IMPD is working very hard to Reduce Crime, Reduce the Fear of Crime, and Improve Public Safety.  They cannot do it alone.  By not only being safety conscious, but by also calling 911 when you see something that is not right, we can all help them to make Indianapolis and our area a safer place to live, work, and play.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
