Dear All,

Below is information about some INDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation) projects that will be taking place in the late spring that will definitely affect those of you who travel I – 65 from the northern part of our district and those who use I – 65 to travel to downtown Indianapolis or through town to I – 70 east or I – 65 south.  Areas of I – 65 will be closed during this work.  The closure will also affect the roads that will be used as detours or alternate routes by an increase of traffic.  Please look at the maps and the information from INDOT and feel free to share this information with others who may be affected.

Note that there is a Public Meeting to discuss the project on Monday, February 12th, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in INDOT’s Indianapolis Sub-District Building located at 7105 S. Brookville Road.  This is a chance to get more information about the project and ask questions.

Specific dates for these projects are not yet known.  Dates will be announced after the construction contracts are awarded this spring.

INDOT Plans to Close Portion of Interstate 65 in Indianapolis for Bridge Restoration Project

INDOT Plans to Host Public Meeting to Discuss Project

INDOT will close I-65 SB at I-465 on the northwest side. Traffic will be diverted via I-465, I-865.

I-65 between Meridian Street (exit 113) and 21st Street (exit 115) will be closed, including Dr. MLK Jr. St./West St. interchange (exit 114). Access to NB I-65 from 21st St. will remain open.

 INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will close portions of I-65 in Indianapolis for approximately 35 days beginning in late spring for bridge preservation projects. Contractors will be rehabbing seven bridges along the stretch of I-65. This is not part of the highly-publicized North Split project.

Southbound Interstate 65 between the I-65/I-465 interchange on the northwest side of Indianapolis will be closed. During the closure, I-65 southbound traffic on the northwest side will be detoured via I-465 South or I-865 East.

The project will also close both directions of I-65 between Meridian St. (exit 113) and 21st St. (exit 115) in downtown Indianapolis. The entrance and exit ramps at the Dr. Martin Luther King St.//West St. interchange (exit 114) will also be closed. The entrance ramp from 21st St. to northbound I-65 will remain open.

INDOT has been coordinating with varies stakeholders near the project to discuss maintenance of traffic and receive input on how to sustain some stakeholder services during construction.

INDOT will host a public information meeting to discuss the project and answer questions from the public. The meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at INDOT’s Indianapolis Sub-District building located at 7105 S. Brookville Road, Indianapolis.

Specific dates on the beginning and completing the project will be announced after awarding a construction contract this spring.
