Dear All,
Attached is our February Crime Report for our District 6. While last month (January) was the lowest since March of 2017, what is even better news is that February is lower yet! We had 79 incidents in January and 70 in February. Let’s hope that we continue that trend – but just hoping for it is not going to make it happen. We need to all do what we can to make our area less inviting to anyone who wants to commit a crime.
- If you see (or hear) something that does not seem right to you – call 911. Do not hesitate calling 911 and letting IMPD come and check it out.
- Do you have an active Crime Watch in your neighborhood or have you had a Crime Watch Meeting this year? If not, how about setting one up? Call Kim Taylor, our Crime Watch Specialist in the Northwest District, at 317-327-6572 or email her at Kim.Taylor@indy.gov.
- Always keep your vehicle locked and nothing of value in it. This means not only in parking lots at the store, work, school, park, restaurants, or any other type of business, but also at home in a driveway.
- Make sure your outside lights are on at night. You will be able to see what is out there better and criminals don’t want to be seen by you or your neighbors.
- When working outside in your yard keep your home locked. If not in sight of your garage door, keep it closed as well. Don’t leave tools, bikes, or other items outside without being attended.
By all of us being aware of our surroundings, working together by following safety tips, and if we see something, say something by calling 911, we can help prevent crime in our area. Wouldn’t be great if we could keep the crime rates low as we head into warmer weather when crime tends to rise? Together we can make that happen.
Sincerely,
Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
