PRESIDENTS’ DAY trash on your normal day.

Dear All,

Just so there is no confusion, Presidents’ Day is not a City Holiday and there will be regular trash service next week.  Wanted to make sure everyone was aware of this so you will put out your trash on your normal day.

In honor of Presidents’ Day two of your museums will be offering free admission on Monday.  If you are able, this is a terrific way to visit one or both of these wonderful museums and save money.  See more details:

ENJOY PRESIDENTS’ DAY DOWNTOWN

Two museums are offering free admission Monday, Feb. 18. Discover Indiana’s presidential heritage at The Children’s Museum 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. including fun historic facts and a featured appearance by President Abraham Lincoln. At the Indiana State Museum from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., visitors can enter JFK’s space race by building and launching their own rockets, test their knowledge of the vice presidents and deliver a memorable presidential speech at the podium.

I would also like to remind you that “Coffee With A Cop” will be on Tuesday, Feb. 19th from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the McDonald’s located 4545 W. 38th Street.  Hope to see many of you there.  Great way to talk with some of the officers and Commander from our Northwest IMPD district one on one.

Please report potholes in our district or areas on our city streets that you drive to the Mayor’s Action Center.  You may call during the week to 317-327-4622 or use the app on your phone.  I have been driving the main streets in our district and reporting what I observe, but I don’t get everywhere and see them all.  More are continuing to occur, so I may have reported some on a street and new ones come after I have driven that area.   Please help in getting these reported so DPW (Department of Public Works) knows about them and we can get them filled.

If they are on the Interstates, the ramps to the Interstates, or the State Highways outside of I – 465, they need to be reported to INDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation) at 855-INDOT4U (855-463-6848) or www.indot4u.com.  Below is information from INDOT on what they are currently doing.  This does affect our side of town.  Please be on the lookout for crews working, slow down, and give them plenty of room.

Hope all this information is helpful to you as you plan next week.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

City-County Councillor District 6

INDOT Adding Resources to Attack Indy-area Interstate Potholes

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation is adding additional maintenance crews and bringing on contractor resources to address potholes forming on the Indianapolis metro area interstates resulting from the recent freeze-thaw conditions.

INDOT has more than doubled the number of maintenance crews focused on patching potholes in the Indianapolis area this week.

Most crews will be working overnight to maintain the safety of drivers and INDOT workers.

Nine crews are assigned to pothole patching overnight in the area indefinitely. At least two crews will be active during daytime hours to address emergency potholes during peak times and perform patching on U.S. and State highways as needed.

INDOT crews will be focused on the following segments:

  • I-69 from 96th St. to I-465
  • I-465 from US 421/Michigan Rd. to I-69
  • I-465 from I-69 to I-70
  • I-70 from I-465 to Mount Comfort Rd.
  • I-70 from I-465 to the North Split
  • I-65 from 38th St to South Split
  • I-65 from the South Split to County Line Rd
  • I-465 from I-70 to State Road 37/Harding St. (Southeast side)
  • I-65 from 38th St to I-865
  • I-865 from I-65 to I-465
  • I-465 from U.S. 421/Michigan Rd. to I-74 (Northwest side)
  • I-465 from I-74 to State Road 37 (Southwest side)
  • I-70 from the South Split to Ronald Reagan Pkwy.

INDOT is also contracting with Rieth-Riley Construction, Milestone Contractors, and E&B paving to strip pave three sections of interstate, including:

  • I-65 near Southport Rd.
  • I-65 N near 71st St.
  • Southeast corner of I-465

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down when they see a crew working on the road and give them plenty of space to do their job.

To report a pothole 24/7 on an interstate highway, U.S. highway or state road, contact INDOT through www.indot4u.com or you can call  855-INDOT4U (463-6848).
