“Trash Cleanup”

Dear All,

An organized “Trash Cleanup” on Tuesday, May 21st, from 5:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. is planned by a couple of us.  If we can get a group of volunteers, we should be able to get the area from Dandy Trail to I – 465 done in that time along 56th Street.  If we have a large enough group we may be able to get some done on the east side of I – 465 as well.  We will meet in the Mayor’s Gardens Parking lot and I will have trash bags, gloves, and the trash reachers (plus water) available.  We have found lately that 5 gallon buckets work great for putting the trash in and then filling a bag, but I do not have buckets to loan out.  If you have one you wish to bring, please do.  If you you cannot make it as early as 5:15 p.m. I will leave trash bags, gloves, and reachers on a chair besides my white car (I will put my signs on the car to help recognize it), just get some supplies and start along that area.  You will see others working that you can meet up with.

With all the water standing in the grassy area along 56th Street by the park it has been very difficult to pick up trash that people have so carelessly thrown out as they drive along there lately (and with the increase in traffic we have had with Dandy Trail Bridge being closed there has been a lot more opportunity for those who litter).  Next weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a huge increase in people here on the west side.  The following weekend will be the Women’s NCAA Rowing Championships held on Eagle Creek Reservoir.  It would look so much better if we could spruce up this area for our visitors.  Help some others and me make this area look better by picking up trash along 56th Street and the Reed Road area by the greenway.  This area around Eagle Creek Park needs a little TLC right now to make it look better.

Tuesday does not work for you, but you would still like to help?  Please feel free to go out on your own.  You can work in an area on 56th Street and pick up trash between now and then, or look for another area that needs it and pick that up.  By working together we can show our visitors that will be here the next two weekends what a lovely, natural area we enjoy and help make the litter not be a distraction to the beauty of the westside.

Hope to see many of you on Tuesday.  I have attached a flyer.  Please feel free to forward this to others or print off the flyer and post or distribute.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
