Dear All,
There will not be regular trash pick up on Christmas Day and then the rest of the week will be delayed one day. See below for the press release that went out today by DPW for more details. Also, it will be the same schedule next week for New Year’s Day. Just a heads up on this.
Did you have a live Christmas tree this year? Wondering what to do with it when you take it down? Nine of our Indy Parks have the solution for you! Starting the day after Christmas, certain Indy Parks will be drop off locations for your discarded Christmas trees, including one in our district (Gustafson) and two very close to many of you (Krannert and Northwestway). You may take your tree to one of the participating parks December 26th through January 31st from dawn to dusk. Please remember that all trees need to be free from lights, ornaments, tinsel, tree stands, and other decorations.
These trees will be recycled for landscaping resources such as mulch and soil blends. This program is not for commercial use and is for Marion County residents only. Please see attached for more information about the participating parks and their addresses.
I know that many of you who have Waste Management for your trash service are interested in a calendar for Heavy Trash and were wanting a 2020 calendar for this. Attached is the 2020 Heavy Trash Calendar for Waste Management. This is for Waste Management only and is something they put together. I hope that this is helpful for those who have Waste Management. Please keep it to refer back to throughout the year.
Some of you have asked if there was anything that told which Holidays are observed for trash pickup. While I have not been able to get anything that I can send out, I did look up the information and found that there are seven holidays that are observed and those weeks DPW will operate on a slide schedule, starting with no pickup on the holiday. They are: New Year’s Day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If ever you have a question about trash pickup you may go to indy.gov/dpw.
Hopefully all this information is useful. Please feel free to forward this information on to others, not only in our District, but throughout Marion County as it pertains to all of Indianapolis.
Sincerely,
Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
