Electronics Recycling Special Event– Waste Management Update

Dear All,
On Saturday, January 23, there will be an Electronics Recycling Special Event from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Krannert Park (605 S. High School Road). This is being presented by the Indianapolis Office of Sustainability (ISO) and the local nonprofit RecycleForce, which reduces crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities while improving the environment through electronics recycling. Many people upgrade their electronics around the holidays, but don’t always know what to do with those they no longer want. This is an excellent opportunity to drop off your unused, outdated, and/or broken electronics so that they may be properly recycled What makes this Electronics Recycling Event even better is that it is close to us, here on the west side.

There will be on-site staff to direct traffic. Those attending should remain in their vehicles and wear a face covering when interacting with staff members. Non-electronic materials will not be accepted during this event.

Hope that this is helpful to many of you and that you will take advantage of this Electronics Recycling Event to get rid of the items listed that you no longer want or need. Please let others know about this as well.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

Dear All,

For those of us who have Waste Management as our trash provider, I have attached the 2021 Heavy Trash Schedule. It is still the second full week of the month on your regular trash day and those weeks are marked in green on the calendar. You may put out two items for heavy trash pickup each month. Look at the bottom of the calendar for examples of some of the acceptable items. Please keep this for future reference.

Did you know that there is a recycling bin at the Pike Township Government Center located at 5665 Lafayette Road? The bin is on the north side of the building. You may recycle clean paper, cardboard, glass containers, cans, and plastics. Do not put into the bin any trash, plastic bags, styrofoam, or anything hazardous. This is a great opportunity to have another option for recycling if you don’t have curbside, besides the bins behind the Kroger located at the corner of Rockville Road and Country Club Road or the recycling bin at Ben Davis High School. Remember a lot of churches, schools, and our libraries also have the green and yellow paper recycling bins for all of your newspaper, office paper, magazines, junk mail, etc. These are all available for you to use for recycling different types of paper. Hope you will take advantage of ways to keep items that can be recycled out of trash and the chance for them to be used for other purposes.

Remember that during the week of January 18th all trash pickup will be delayed one day due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For more information on trash services and recycling in Indianapolis, go online to Trash Pickup in Indianapolis. Hope this information is helpful to everyone. Feel free to share it with others in your neighborhood or the west side area.

Sincerely,
