“Road Closed on or after December 13th” on 56th Street

Dear All,

I know that many of you have seen the signs “Road Closed on or after December 13th” on 56th Street between Potters Pike and Raceway Road. When those signs came up, I began trying to find out exactly what was going on and for how long the road will be closed. I have not found out a lot, but wanted to share with you what I know.

It is not a DPW (Department of Public Works) project. DPW did look into this more, and found out it is a Citizen’s Energy Project to replace a cross pipe on 56th Street (hopefully this is where the road has been eroding away). It should be completed by the end of the week. With the weather forecast – hopefully they will get it completed on time.

That being said – if the road is closed by Tuesday, I would like to suggest doing a cleanup along there. This is a perfect opportunity to get an area that normally is hard to do and not the safest, even when we have the police helping us. I figured it could be done between Potters Pike and the neighborhood to the west and we would not be in anyone’s way who is working. Parking could be done at the Golf Course or inside the neighborhood. If you can help, please meet in the parking lot of the golf course at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and we will work until dusk. If you cannot be there by 3:30 p.m., come when you are able. I will have bags, as well as grabbers and buckets to borrow. If Tuesday does not work for you – please feel free to go out and pick up a bag or two of trash when you are able. It has been two years since we last did an organized cleanup along there, and it really needs it. This can be the perfect opportunity for us to get this area cleaned up before winter.

Please feel free to pass this information on to others who may want to know what is going on with the road closure or would be interested in getting out and making a difference by picking up trash.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
