Eclipse glasses and were wondering how you could recycle them?

Dear All,

Do you still have your Eclipse glasses and were wondering how you could recycle them?  Here is a way you can make sure they do not just end up in a landfill – but can be used by others (especially school children) in other countries to safely view the next eclipse.  Speedway is collecting these glasses now through May 3rd at their Municipal Center located 5300 Crawfordsville Road from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.  There is a box in the lobby for these glasses.  Hope this is helpful to those who have been wondering what to do now that the eclipse is over and you have glasses you no longer need.  See below for more information.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry

Town of Speedway Announces

Solar Eclipse Recycling Initiative

The Town of Speedway is hosting a Solar Eclipse Glasses Recycling Initiative to help bring solar eclipse glasses to people who may not otherwise have a safe way to view an eclipse.

Donated solar eclipse glasses will be shipped to Astronomers Without Borders, a US non-profit charitable organization that collects gently-used eclipse glasses and provides them to underserved communities and schools to use in future solar eclipses. Astronomers Without Borders vets and determines the integrity and safety of the lens and the housing of the lenses to ensure they are free of punctures, scratches, and bends.
