METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PIKE TOWNSHIP

Dear All,

I thought I would share PTRA’s agenda for Wednesday, as Dr. Young, Superintendent of Pike Schools will be doing a power point on the referendum question that will be on the ballot May 7th.  The referendum question is stated:

METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PIKE TOWNSHIP

Shall the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township, Marion County, Indiana, increase property taxes paid to schools by homeowners and businesses for eight(8) years immediately following the holding of the referendum for the purpose of funding the Pike Township Schools Funding Sustainability Initiative, which includes funding loss learning enhancement programing and staff recruitment, teach and staff retention and recruitment efforts, professional development opportunities for staff, and enhanced school safety and security programs on projects?  If this question is approved by the voters, the average property tax paid to schools per year on a residence would increase by 36.4% and the average property tax paid to schools per year on a business property would increase by 31.4%.  The most recent property tax referendum propose by the school corporation was held in 2010 and passed.

Please note the percentage for residents of 36.4% and for business property of 31.4%.  My husband and I did the math on Table 3: Gross Property Tax Distribution Amounts Applicable to this Property for School and 36.4% came out to an increase of $635.96 from our 2203 taxes (as we do not have our 2024 property taxes).

I wanted to make everyone aware of this as well as giving you an opportunity to come to PTRA and learn more about this.  The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. and Dr. Young is second on the agenda after the report from IMPD Northwest District.  You may leave whenever you wish – as you do not have to stay for the entire meeting.  PTRA meets at the  Pike Township Government Center, 5665 Lafayette Road (basically the northeast corner of 56th Street and Lafayette Road, behind the gas station).  See below and agenda for more details.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
