“Great Indy Cleanup”

Dear All,

It won’t be long until the trees will bud, spring flowers will bloom (I’ve seen some Snowdrops and Crocuses  blooming already), and everything will start to “green up”.  Eagle Creek Park will be in “Spring Glory” before we know it.  I have attached the March Calendar that lets you know what is going on of special interest.  Looking at the weather ahead for the weekend, it may be wet on Saturday, but inside the Earth Discovery Center will be dry and they are hosting a terrific exhibit – the 25th Annual Woodcarvers and Woodturners.  If you have not seen some of these fantastic pieces or talked with the artists before, this weekend would make the perfect time.  The exhibit is free with park admission.  Well worth checking out.

We will be having our annual “Great Indy Cleanup” on the 56th Street Causeway and west to Raceway Road on Saturday, April 9th, from 9:00 a.m. until noon.  Starting points will be at the Eagle Creek Park Office on the east side of the causeway and “The Bear” on the west side of the causeway.  Gloves, trash bags, and water will be provided.  This is the week before most of the cleanups on the west side of Indianapolis, so we hope that if you are involved with another cleanup that you will come out and help with this one as well.  You do not have to be there the entire three hours, whatever time you can give is extremely appreciated.  The flyer is attached for more information and how to sign up.  Last year we had 56 volunteers helping on this project.  This year I would like to see even more people help out.  So don’t delay, mark your calendar and plan on being there.  What a difference we can all make together, not only with this cleanup, but with other cleanups in the area.

Like to give a huge “Thanks” to Ping’s Tree Service for their Day of Service at Eagle Creek Park’s entrance today.  They provided a crew with lots of equipment out there and ended up cutting down and removing 8 dead trees.  This was being pro-active before these trees or their branches fell, possibly doing damage.  We certainly do appreciate Ping’s Tree Service donating their time and equipment, as when companies step up like this it saves taxpayer money and helps us get more accomplished.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
