crime report for Feb.-2016

Dear All,

Attached is the February Crime Report for District 6.  It is the first Crime Report I have received for the new District 6.  I hope that you find this information helpful.  Since the district has changed so much, I will not be able to compare the current information to the past, but we will be able to look to the future to make District 6 safer and be pro-active as individuals and neighborhoods to help reduce crime.

If your neighborhood does not have a Crime Watch, I would like to encourage you to start one or re-activate an existing one.  Diane Moorman is our Crime Watch Specialist for IMPD’s Northwest District.  Her email is Diane.Moorman@indy.gov and her phone number is 327-6572.  She would be delighted to hear from you.  She can help your neighborhood learn more about being pro-active and how you can help keep your neighborhood safer against being victims of crime.  Many of you are holding your annual HOA Meetings this spring.  What a perfect time to ask Diane to come out to your meeting and talk about Crime Watches and give tips of things you can do to be less likely to be a victim.  I hope many of you will encourage your HOA Leaders to set something up with Diane Moorman soon.

While those of you who have been in my District over the years know that I like usually offer tips each month on ways we can make ourselves less likely to be a victim of a crime, this month I am only going to give one tip, the one that I feel is the most important:

If something does not look right to you, it won’t look right to the police.  Call 911!

No matter how many Crime Watches, police meetings, or neighborhood meetings I attend, this is what is always said by IMPD.  You are the eyes and ears.  They cannot be everywhere or see everything.  You know your neighborhood and area better than anyone else.  So……

If you see something that does not look right to you, call 911!

Remember, too, that if you discover you are a victim of a vehicle break-in and even if nothing was taken, to notify the police and file a report.  You may contact the non-emergency number:  327-4622 if it has already happened and you are sure they would not still be in the neighborhood.  The police do want to know.  This helps them to see if there is a pattern or trend and hopefully helps them to catch the person or individuals who did it.

Please feel free to forward this email to others in your neighborhood or our district that may not be on my email list and would like to see this information.  Let’s all work together to make our neighborhoods safer.  Don’t forget:

Call 911 to report something that does not look right to you!

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
