Earlier today I went to the kick-off of the “Jingle Books” program. The purpose of the program at all of our Indianapolis Public Libraries is to help every child in Indianapolis receive a gift book during the holiday season. Sponsors are Indy Reads Books, Mayor Greg Ballard, and The Indianapolis Public Libraries, but they need all of our help! They need books, as the books that will be passed out will come from donations. So, if you have a gently used children’s book(s) that your children or grandchildren have outgrown, dropping them off at any of the libraries would be greatly appreciated. Or, when you are out shopping, pick up a new book that a child could treasure and drop it off. Many stores have inexpensive books, especially at this time of year.
How the program works is that parents may come in and select a book that would be age appropriate for their child. There is also wrapping paper available so they can gift wrap it right there. They can then take it home and put it under the tree. The goal is for every child to have a book to open on Christmas morning. So, you can see they need a lot of books donated! I hope that many of you are able to help with this very worthwhile project.
I have attached the flyer that the libraries have about the program. Please feel free to forward this on to others who also may be interested in participating in “Jingle Books”.
Sincerely,
Janice McHenry
