Dear All,
Hard to imagine, but July is almost here. So as we look ahead, the July calendar for Eagle Creek Park is attached. Please note the park office, Earth Discovery Center, and Ornithology Center will be closed on July 4th. The rest of the park will be open and ready for you to enjoy. Also, the Volunteer Coffee Talk will be on July 11th instead of the first Wednesday of the month. Notice that on July 14th, the park will not open until 11 a.m. due to the Sprint Triathlon. Don’t forget that on Wednesday evenings (except July 4th), there are Concerts at the Marina starting at 6:30 p.m. Look over the calendar and the information that goes with it and see what interests you.
Before July begins (actually this Saturday, June 30th), Indy Parks is having their annual “Pack the Parks”. Admission to parks and all pools is free that day. There are lots of special events, etc. going on not only at Eagle Creek Park, but many of our other Indy Parks. The attached flyer gives details and a schedule for Key Events, with times and the park where those events will be held. A great time to check out some of our other parks that maybe you have not been to before or to check out one of the pools.
With July about to start it is actually time to start thinking about children going back to school. Several of the schools will be starting at the end of July. We will start seeing stores putting out their school supplies and having sales on items that children need to go back to school. However, not all families can afford supplies for their children. Some do not realize how important having the right “tools” is for their boys and girls education. This year I will be conducting my annual “School Supply Drive” with Eagle Creek Park. Starting July 14th, you may drop off school supplies at either the 56th Street or 71st Street Gatehouse at the park (you do not have to enter the park to donate). If you are in the park you may also drop off supplies at the Earth Discovery Center (EDC). These supplies will be donated to the various schools that are either in District 6 or serve the children who live in our district. Thanks to so many of you who gave last year, we were able to give supplies to 10 different schools in our area. I hope that we will have even more donations this year, as the need is really great. It means so much to a child to have the right supplies to start their year. Below is a list of supplies that are needed.
Please feel free to forward this information on to others. Hope you enjoy visiting Eagle Creek Park and/or other Indy Parks soon.
Sincerely,
Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
