Dear All,
Attached are four things that our Northwest District IMPD would like to make sure that all of you see. Two have to do with events and the other two information.
1.) National Night Out Against Crime – Tuesday, August 7th. Right now that seems far away, but it will be here before we know it. Attached is the registration form for your group/neighborhood. Some of you may ask –
WHAT IS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT?
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Our Northwest District IMPD officers and Commander try to make it to as many neighborhoods as possible each year. They would like the registration in by July 2nd (which is coming up soon) so they can plan accordingly.
Remember – these can be simple or more involved. Ideas I have seen are: having cookies and lemonade, make your own ice cream sundaes, soft drinks and popcorn (or pretzels and chips), cookouts, pitch-ins, pizza parties, Subway, etc. I have attached (bottom attachment) an idea sheet I discovered. Reading through it may give you some ideas or inspire some of your own.
Thanks to all the neighborhoods that have participated in the past. I know there have been some terrific and fun National Night Out Events in our district. I hope that this year we will have many more in our neighborhoods. Look over the registration and think about ways you and some of your neighbors can bring your neighborhood together with this event.
2.) “Ice Cream With a Cop” – Monday, July 2nd. Many of you have attended “Coffee With a Cop” which normally is held in the mornings. Next month, on July 2nd, they are having “Ice Cream With a Cop” from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at La Michoacana located 3740 Lafayette Road. This is an excellent opportunity for you to come out and meet Commander Lewis (if you haven’t already) and talk with the officers about your neighborhood and our area. See attached for more information. Let’s get a lot of people out to attend this event.
3.) IMPD Northwest District Contact Sheet. There have been a lot of changes in our Northwest District lately and this is the latest contact information sheet. It list the different divisions, the names of those in charge, their emails and phone numbers. Keep this handy in case you need it.
4.) “When to Call 911 vs. 311”. Did you know that you can call 311 for non-emergency calls from your cell phone? That service is now available in Marion County. You still need to call 317-327-3811 from a landline, but the 311 service can be called from a cell phone for a non-emergency call. The attached sheet gives you an idea of when to call 911 verses when it is better to call the non-emergency number – either 317-327-3811 or now 311 from a cell phone.
I know this was a lot of information at once, but wanted to get it out and felt this was the best way to do it. Hope you did find at least part of it something that is useful to you. Please feel free to forward it to others who may not be receiving this information from me. Hopefully I will hear about a lot of National Night Out events going on in our district, make sure you register them with our Northwest District IMPD.
Sincerely,
Janice McHenry
