Crime Report

Dear All,

I am sending out the Crime Reports for our District for four of the first 5 months of the year.  I don’t have a new February report.  With the new maps, a new system, and maybe the computer itself, there were some minor errors in January through April.  I questioned this when I noticed a huge jump from April to May and some errors were found and now the program corrected.  The jump was not a large as first thought, but it still was big.

I would like to encourage everyone to call 911 when you notice something that is suspicious.  You know your neighborhoods, and who should be there, what vehicles belong, etc.  Don’t hesitate calling the police when something doesn’t seem right to you.  By calling 911 when something seems strange to you can be big in keeping our neighborhoods safer.

Larcenies are still our biggest crime problem in the district.  Remember – you can help prevent these crimes which are often “A Crime of Opportunity”.  Remember:

1.)  Never leave a vehicle unlocked or something of value in it, especially in plain sight.  Best, if at all possible keep it in a locked garage.

2.)  Keep your garage doors closed, even if you are outside if you are out of sight of the door or could be distracted from seeing someone enter the garage.

3.)  Remind youth to not leave bicycles or other toys outside, even when visiting a friend’s house – make sure the bike is put out of sight if you are inside.  I talked with a lady today whose son had a friend that’s bike was stolen from their front yard during the middle of an afternoon while the boys were inside.

4.)  Keep your lawn mowers and other tools locked up and not outside when not in use.

Hope these tips are helpful and that by following them we can bring crime down in our area.

Below is the break down of the various incidents by month.

I would also like for everyone to be aware of the “Roving Roll Call for the IMPD Northwest District” on Wednesday, July 13th, at 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Town Center which is located just west of Eskenazi Health Center, in front of the old Kroger’s store (now Rosie’s Department Store) on West 38th Street, weather permitting.  This is being hosted by the International Marketplace Coalition.

This is a great opportunity to show support for our officers from the community they protect.  If you have the chance to stop by I know it would mean a lot to them.  It is just a small way we can show them how much we appreciate what all they do for us.

Sincerely,

Janice McHenry
City-County Councillor District 6
